Mobile Commerce’s Head Manager, on Patterning with Virgin Media

Broadband service giant Virgin Media and Mobile Commerce have formed a business partnership that is ushering a new mobile portal for Virgin Media’s broadband service users that is unique in the UK.

Better known as RoundU, this new portal enables mobile broadband subscribers of Virgin Media in the UK to enjoy access to the information provided by Mobile Commerce’s location-specific database through GPS technology.

Mutual Partnership Benefits

The Head Manager of Mobile Commerce, Steve Page, is more than elated for being chosen by Virgin Media as a business and operating partner in its ongoing efforts to differentiate its mobile broadband services with the GPS-tuned database technology that Mobile Commerce commands.

Quality Services

Mobile Commerce partnership will provide Virgin Media broadband users with  about 2 million business listings in around 11,000 sites throughout the UK,   This is like having a local phone directory to help the subscriber decide which hotel to say, restaurant to eat or movies to watch while they are in the country.  These benefits have not escaped Steve Page who has expressed his gratitude on behalf of Mobile Commerce to Virgin Media for working together as team in this effort.  He assured customers that Mobile Commerce and Virgin Media are committed to bringing quality service and product delivery with this partnership.

BT Openzone

BT OpenzoneIt’s Everywhere – the BT Openzone

The BT Openzone is a trademarked brand for WiFi or more colloquially ‘Hotspot” service provided by telecommunications giant British Telecoms or BT throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland. As of this writing, BT Openzone has more than half a million hotspots scattered throughout the UK isles which includes those provided by the BT FON WiFi Community.

Wireless Broadband Access

BT uses broadband internet technologies to bring wireless connectivity in just about every location in and outside UK cities and towns. You now can just bring your laptop, netbook or internet-capable mobile phones to do your surfing or downloading in cafes and coffee shops, shopping malls, airport lounges, hotels, railway stations, shipping terminals, motor service stations, exhibition sites and legal courts, among others.

To say that the WiFi network is extensive can be an understatement. Apart from using its own wireless broadband infrastructure, BT has business partnerships and roaming agreements with other wireless broadband providers. There’s a good chance you don’t have to look for a BT Openzone hotspot as its pervasive network puts you on one, whether at home, in a corner store near your place or on the road. You get convenient internet access outdoor in just about all the major cities that include Westminster in London, Birmingham, Liverpool and Newcastle.

Not For Free

The BT Openzone essentially gives everyone the freedom to go online anywhere with no download limits. BT’s public wireless network is similar to mobile phone cell masts scattered throughout the isle. But just like mobile phone use, the freedom to go online wirelessly anywhere in the country isn’t really for free. You have to pay for it, either on a one-time charge whenever you need it, or on a regular subscription with monthly dues. You can get one for as low as ₤5 for 500 minutes one time, or a monthly of ₤12.50 for unlimited access.

Free Friday Vodafone

vodafone-logo2Not to be Outdone with Free Friday Vodafone

Telecoms giant Orange may have its Orange Wednesdays – a promotional break when you can have free tickets to the cinema, now Vodafone isn’t going to lag behind now.  It is offering a whole day of internet browsing and email access to its customers free of charge.  Trademarked Free Friday, the usual 50p flat rate between 12:01am and 22:59pm Friday is waived entirely. That’s 24 hours of straight free internet usage.

How it works

There’s no need to do anything special to get a Free Friday internet.  Just click on the Vodafone Live icon on the browser menu on your iPhone to get you on your free surfing for the day.  You can text “web” to 2888 to have your internet experience on your handset personalized.  Alternatively, you can send links of your favourite sites right to your mobile phone by visiting vodafone.co.uk/freebrowsing

More freebies

Vodafone had a similar free internet day offer last month which to many internet addicts out there only shaved off a measly 50p from the usual monthly bill. This time, Vodafone is offering something better.  You can save so much more as it is allowing you to download 10 music files free of charge.  iTunes geek who can’t get enough of their MP3 files can welcome this to cut on their expenses.

It looks like Vodafone is making its download service more appealing.  If first abandoned its DRM features and then rolled out a realtime Twitter top 40 songs lists and is now giving away these music tracks for nothing.  This Friday, get yourself ready to stay up late for an internet browsing marathon that won’t cost a penny, just a sleepless night.  10 songs may not be a lot, but you get to keep that free of charge and just await another Free Friday from Vodafone.
